General FAQs
Do you use treats or toys during training?
Of course! Treats and toys are great motivators when a dog is learning. The more we reward our dogs for good behaviors, the more we see those good behaviors occur.
Private Coaching FAQ
What is the goal of private coaching? What will I learn?
Have you heard of the old saying that goes “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”? This describes our coaching style perfectly. Yes, we will help you resolve your issues but more broadly, we will be teaching your how dogs learn. To become a good trainer you need a good coach and that’s where we come in. We will work with you and your dog/dogs 1 on 1 in your private lessons. We will also be available via text, e-mail, or phone to answer any questions you might have or just to help you with problem solving along the way.
How does one program differ from the other?
Our programs are categorized by 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year programs. Each program comes with a set number of lessons. The larger programs have a slightly better value, but the overall goal is to help you improve over the given period of time.
Can I combine private coaching with training camps?
Absolutely! This is actually why all our Board and Train programs come with private coaching lessons. Board and Trains are great for your dog’s understanding and coaching lessons are great for you, the human!
Board and Train Camp FAQ
Is a Board and Train right for my dog?
We create as much of an enriching environment as we can to ensure your dog is relaxed and happy during his or her stay. Just like with humans, the more fun and interactive learning is, the better the learner retains the information. For a few weeks, your dog will be attended to most of the day. Many of our Campers come back to board because they have a lot of fun throughout the day here. Camp is, in our opinion, the best way to introduce dog training to a dog. Coaching lessons are the best way to introduce humans to dog training. Ultimately, the decision is yours. I was in your shoes and decided to do a Board and Train years ago. The results were so amazing that I became a dog trainer. I believe that the right coach can help any dog and owner live a better life together- no matter what program.
Where will my dog stay during a board and train?
At our home. We cannot teach house manners at a kennel-type place. Plus, we like working from home. We keep the ratio of dogs to trainer small so we can give each dog individualized time. Your dogs will also be able to socialize around our group of well behaved dogs. This is very powerful for hyper active or aggressive dogs that react at the sight of other dogs.
How many hours a day will my dog be training?
Every minute your dog is with you (or with us) it is learning how to behave. Our Camp programs are an immersive experience. Every dog has an opportunity to potty multiple times throughout the day as well as a fitness and social sessions. Formal obedience cues (like “heel” or “come”) are taught throughout the day and sessions can last anywhere from an hour to three depending on where your dog at in the training process. We are not fans of training sessions because we know our clients are busy people. We train throughout the day so your dog gets used to listening throughout the day. Part of training is relationship building too. Because we only work with a small number of dogs per trainer ratio, all our campers enjoy personal time with their trainer. We believe this is extremely important because it lets your dog know that he or she has someone that cares for them . Once your dog shows fluency of the behaviors we are teaching, we move our training sessions to public areas such as stores, parks, and restaurants. This helps generalize our obedience and encourages our clients to do more things with their dogs!!!
My dog is aggressive. Can you still work with him/her during a Board and Train?
We sure can. Just let us know beforehand so we can go over out Aggressive Dog Protocol with you.
